Chrome Asylum bass drum heads for Disturbed’s Mike Wengren, 2011. The art came from the band. The hard part was the surface: chrome mirror vinyl.

Problem

Chrome mirror vinyl is very hard to print on. Early prints came off with ink that wouldn’t dry and smeared to the touch, and a head that shows a fingerprint, let alone a smear, can’t go on a touring kit.

Process

Worked through the ink problems on the chrome film, print by print, until the heads came out clean and fully cured, then printed multiple sets: Wengren keeps separate kits for his European tour and his US tour.

Result

Clean, fully cured Asylum heads for both of Wengren’s kits. Through Sic Skinz I also printed Disturbed’s Immortalized tour heads (two versions, one for each kit) and heads for Fight or Flight, Wengren’s side band outside Disturbed.

Hired by Sic Skinz to print and produce drumheads for national touring acts.
